Markup valid, result gone
When Google retires a rich result, the schema.org type doesn't change. Your FAQPage or HowTo block still parses, still validates at validator.schema.org, and still describes the page correctly. What disappears is the special appearance in Google and, a little later, the Search Console report and Rich Results Test support.
Google has repeatedly said that leaving retired markup in place causes no harm and that removing it doesn't affect rankings. Keep it if another consumer uses it (other search engines, your own site search, internal tooling); remove it if it clutters templates.

Article, Breadcrumb, Carousel, Course list, Discussion forum, Education Q&A, Employer aggregate rating, Event, Image metadata, Job posting, Local business, Math solver, Movie, Organization, Product (snippets and merchant listings), Profile page, Q&A, Recipe, Review snippet, Software app, Speakable, Subscription and paywalled content, Vacation rental and Video, per Google's search gallery.
